This 1967 High roof Clinomobil was found on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately the engine and gearbox were lost, and the rear of the car had sunk into the ground a few inches and had remained like that for a decade or so
The bus was rescued and entrusted to us for restoration
The old paint was stripped off
Tin work in progress
The bus is prepped for paint
Assembly and finishing
And delivered !
A 1954, 1955, 1956 and a 1957 VW Beetle under restoration at Jalopy Shop !
Stay tuned for more updates !
The first Ghia was in what we thought then was deplorable condition and needed major reconstruction and fabrication (especially on the lower half).
The second Ghia had had it’s roof chopped off ! She needed a brand new roof rolled out in an English wheel
Stay tuned for the pics of the third Ghia and updates
We were given the opportunity to work on the repainting of this rather original 1947 Daimler which belonged to the Maharaja of Mysore. It was then in long term ownership with K S Raman and is now in the custody of KP Subbaiah.
The mechanical restoration and tinwork of this car was handled by Christopher Rodericks of Rodericks Restorations, Bangalore
The old paint of the car was stripped away very carefully using carbon-fibre sanding discs.
rust protection at every stage using Wurth products. The car is soon prepped and is now in surfacer. Glasurit surfacer is used for best results since the paint system selected was Glasurit DG
The car is painted in a black and ivory combination
Partial assembly before delivery
The Daimler is returned to Rodericks Restorations for completion. Hope to see her on the road soon !
This 1966 VW Beetle came to us in what appeared to be reasonably good shape. We didn’t think we would need to do much apart from an engine overhaul and some tinwork
We used wet vapour abrasive blasting to strip the paint. This revealed a fair number of problems with the tinwork on the car, the most interesting of which was fibre glass patchwork on the floor and structural areas of the body !
Tin work consisted mostly of rebuilding the lower half of the car. All structural members of the body : the heater channels, the floor pan etc
the car is painted in the original Bahama Blue shade
In the meanwhile the engine is stripped and rebuilt. Brake and suspension parts are sand blasted and Zinc coated
Final assembly and finishing touches
The car is driven by road from Bangalore – Goa – Pune – Bombay covering a little more than a thousand miles. En route it participates in OldWheels 2020. A perfect run-in for a lovely little bug !
This 1966 Sunbeam Minx is a British built product of the Rootes Group. It is essentially a rebadged Hillman Minx for the US market (Left Hand Drive). This example was purchased new by a Professor N Mukunda, while he was stationed in the USA in 1966. He transferred to IISc, Bangalore in 1969 and the car followed him home !
What little tinwork the car needed was completed. Rust protection at every stage.
The car had unfortunately been overcoated at some point in it’s history. The original dual shade of leaf green and willow green was uncovered and matched with paintcode to get a close match in a modern paint system
With painting complete, final assembly began
And done ! The SUNBEAM horn button badge is unfortunately a NLA part. It has been replaced with a HILLMAN badge which is easier to find. In time we hope to 3D print the SUNBEAM badge.
This 1961 VW Beetle came to us in April 2019, as a partially completed project. Some of the tin work was done, and the engine had been overhauled in Goa. We were asked to complete the car and have it ready in time for the owner’s wedding in Dec 2019 !
We completed the remaining tin work and got the car ready for paint. The bare metal was treated with Rust protection and treatment products from Wurth
The car is now in surfacer and rust protection rubber undercoat is sprayed for added protection
The car is painted in a Pearl White shade. Looks mostly stock from afar, and mildly metallic from up close.
Final assembly of the car proceeds, along with interior work and electricals
In the meanwhile, the gearbox is overhauled, removing decades of grime.
The Bug races to the finishing line !
Made it just in time ! Phew ! Our heartiest congratulations to the happy couple !
This 1961 Fiat came to us in quite a sorry state. The car had a thick layer of paste / filler over a significant quantum of rusty panels on the lower half.
The first step was to strip off all the old paint and filler. Wet-vapour abrasive blasting was used to strip the car to bare metal. With all the filler gone, the extent of damage that rust had caused was clearly visible.
Much of the lower half of the car was replaced with fresh metal panels.
In the meanwhile work on the mechanicals was completed
The car is getting closer to be painted
With the paint done, the car moves to final assembly and detailing
A last-minute decision to fabricate a lusso inspired trim for the Fiat Select
Interior work in progress. A unique feature of the early 60s Fiats is the fold down rear seat for a larger cargo area !
Vintage style moulded number plates were fabricated and installed
And the car is done ! Whitewall inserts complete the look of the car
One of our earliest frame off restorations was on this 1974 Super Bug. Since this is one of the last generation of air-cooled beetles, it came equipped from factory with a lot of modern embellishments like a mac-pherson strut suspension, disc brakes etc which made it a dream to drive.
The car had rust in the usual spots for a VW Bug : The floor and heater channels. All rusty areas were refreshed with fresh metal.
Finished in VW Flash Red paint, the car is now back to puttering on the roads of Bangalore !
